While alcohol may seem like a quick fix in order to elevate or depress one’s mood, the long-term effects on moods can be devastating, causing dizzying lows or crazy highs.

Here are three options that can be used to limit drug and alcohol abuse

Restrict Communication

Clearly, drugs have to be purchased from somewhere, and alcohol must be purchased from a store. Friends urge on the bad activities of others, so eliminating communication to the outside world, in order to block this negative influence, is critical.

Money

It takes cash to buy drugs and alcohol, so it is important to limit the spending of a loved one, so that there is less possibility of them buying a listen substances that will hurt their body.

Transportation

Driving a car is necessary to go to work or run errands. Limiting transportation is important. Calling and checking up on individuals can greatly eliminate drug and alcohol use in bipolars.

Monitoring

Monitoring is probably one of you most important ways for a loved one to take care of their bipolar spouse, child, or parent. While they may resent it during a mood episode, bipolar disorder does not always have someone thinking clearly. Controlling a risky behavior on behalf of a significant other can prove effective in controlling mood episodes triggered by drug and alcohol abuse.
